This so simple, yet so pretty DIY project was a last minute idea for my sister’s baby shower. I had my pretty eucalyptus stems and small mason jar candles for the cake table, but it still needed something. A little something elegant and pretty. This is when I came across the idea of a table runner made of paper doilies. I saw it in a picture on social media. I thought it was so pretty and new it would be inexpensive to make.
So, first thing’s first – SHOPPING!
First, I looked around online. I needed something convenient because this was literally two days before the shower. Party City had exactly what I needed. I purchased two packs of these paper doilies. I liked the idea of having different sizes.
The only other thing needed for this simple project is a glue gun!
Once I had my materials together, I opened the packages of doilies. I didn’t need all of them for this one project but I wanted to make sure I had enough of each size. At this point, I still wasn’t sure what sizes I would be using.
First thing I did was lay out the doilies on the table, the way I wanted them to look. I knew I wanted to start with the large size on each end. These would be the ends hanging off the table, to give it that “runner” look.
For the next size, I played around between the small doily and the medium. I ultimately decided on the medium, I preferred the way it looked over the small. This step is really to your liking! Whatever looks good to your eye. I ended up using only the large and medium sizes. The cake stand would be sitting in the center of the table and with the stand also being white, it looked much better not sitting on top of a doily. So, I left the center of the table open.
Once you have your doilies laid out in the order you want, you’re ready for the glue gun!
I layered the medium sized doily just enough over the edge of the large doily. It doesn’t take much glue to hold these thin pieces of paper together, I only did a couple of drops! I carefully held the two doilies together to ensure a good seal with the glue. I did this for each doily until my runner was complete! Seriously, it took all of 10 minutes to complete this project!
Once the runner was complete, I made a crease on each end doily. I did this by letting half of the end piece hang off the table, then folded it down. This would give it that runner look. Looking at the photos, it actually looks like a cloth runner!
This easy DIY really gave my cake table that pop of elegant, farmhouse vibe!
This table runner made of paper doilies is so pretty for any occasion. A brunch with your best girls or a Christmas potluck. It’s even perfect for every day use! It’s so easy and inexpensive, if it gets a little food on it, just make another!
I’m so happy I came across this idea. If you’ve made one of these before or plan to, sound off in the comments! I’d love to hear what occasion you used this easy table runner for!
